Importance Of Failure

Failure is a word that no one wants to hear. It is the biggest fear of a human being yet it is faced by every human being on earth at least once in their life. We need to learn how to deal with this word 'failure'.
A lot of people in this world give up on their lives just because they couldn't achieve something they desire. People ignore the fact that failure helps the man to distinguish what he did wrong.
Here are some tips which can help you get into the positive side of life and change the failure into victory.

1. SAY NO TO GIVING UP

Before starting anything that you think will give you success, promise yourself that you will never give up if you failed at this particular task. This promise to self makes your mind ready for both failure and triumphs. But what if you didn't do that in the start? Then always remember that it is never too late. If you think that now you can do nothing or you are over, you are just making an excuse.

2. LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKES

This is the opportunity that you should not let go of. Suppose you are in a football ground. You are playing alone and there is a goalkeeper. You make an aim and strike the football but the goalkeeper stops it. This goalkeeper is life. It is challenging you at every point and it will continue to do so till you take your last breathe. You strike the ball for 9 times in a row and fail. But in the tenth attempt, you strike it in such a manner that you retrieved those 9 'in a row failures'. That's how it works. You cannot quit till you leave the ground. And if you leave the ground, you gave up. Those 9 attempts proved that you somehow learnt from your mistakes.

3. NEVER THINK THAT YOU'VE GOT ONLY PLAN A

The worst thing you can do after failing at some project is thinking that it was the only plan you could ever think of. Don't ever underestimate yourself. There is always another plan. If plan A fails Plan B and if plan B fails Plan C. If you are into achieving something, no one or nothing in this world can stop you rather all the world will conspire to make you achieve it.

4. POSITIVE MINDSET

This is the most important thing that you need to live a contented life. Always think positive. Spread positivity. Never let yourself down. If you bring negativity around you, it will not let you achieve your dreams. Positivity is all we need to grow and establish ourselves in this world.
People need to let go of the bad things or failures faced and should start prioritizing over positivity. By doing this particular act, they can achieve their life goals and master the game of life.

Can Self Esteem Be Taught?

Of course it can, in fact we have all, as a society been taught to believe self esteem is even a thing. Prior to 1980 most people hadn't even heard of self esteem. The first use of the term can be traced back to 1890 but even then the concept of self esteem didn't really even become an accepted as a psychological concept until the late 1960's. This came about as the rise in consumerism and consumption started to put the individual at the centre of his or her destiny.
A major influence on the self esteem movement was Nathaniel Brandon who is often credited as the father of the self esteem movement. So if you're having self esteem issues as you might like to call them, you can blame him. This was affected by enlightened self interest and radical individualism espoused by An Rand. Whilst Branden's views may not be what they once were, he is widely credited with opening the door of self esteem to popular culture. This occurred sometime around the late 80's as self esteem began to move from the world of academia into the public consciousness.
Helped along by political types, a member of the California State Assembly even claiming low self esteem is the cause of drug abuse, teenage pregnancy and even school underachievement. Seeing boosting self esteem as a form of social vaccine. All this despite no evidence and many studies showing evidence to the contrary.
Unlike many fads that come and go, self esteem has hung in there and become part of the social fabric and popular culture of the western world. These unsubstantiated and erroneous beliefs about self esteem became part of the teachings about how we should view ourselves. So effectively much of our society has been taught to believe in self esteem. It has become reality based on collective belief and wish instead of evidence or fact.
What can you do? Refuse to rate the self, start by accepting yourself because you can breathe, and start to notice when you are trying to rate your entirety. When things go well try being happy stop yourself at that point if your habit is to start making sweeping generalisations about yourself as a result. When things don't go well its OK to be unhappy, but rating yourself because of it is not only unhelpful, it's also incredibly inaccurate. Learning to accept yourself unconditionally is the best place to be.

The Importance of Listening

The Power of Silence

I've always been naturally chatty but have discovered over the past few years that it may be time to put silence to use in the workplace. As a performer and speaker, you want to use personality to connect with an audience. However, there are times when silence is more effective.

I've especially noticed the last few supervisors I've had used few words. It drove me nuts because I never knew what they were thinking or how to connect with them. I didn't know if it was their personality or a management style. Whatever the reason, it has caught my attention and made me more curious.

I've come to the conclusion that for myself, I need to put it into practice with co-workers anyway. I can be chatty with those who are friendly but hold back with others. You can't take words back so better to have not said anything than to have it used against you later. Others may feel free to speak foul but I don't need to. I also need to stop any gossip the second I recognize it and not even listen to it.

My biggest downfall has always been not being able to hold back the look on my face. It's embarrassing. There is hope. At least I can start by holding back on words.

There was a time I was really into positive thinking. The challenge lately has been being in an environment that was negative. It's easy to think positive when you're surrounded by like-minded people but hard when you don't fit in. I don't want to fit in. I want to do what's right.

I've always loved motivational speakers but am intrigued by the influence I've observed by silence. I want to know what I'm missing and what I should be looking for.

There have only been three times I was silent and they were profound. The first time was with a suicidal girl I came across and it saved her life. The second time was before giving a talk with female inmates. It gave me my opening line just by listening to their conversations. The third time was sitting in the back of a room as a new employee and gathering my first impression of what I was in for. That's all it took and my conclusion was correct. I didn't stay there long.

I probably will always be chatty but I am willing to learn new techniques.

Impacts of Stress

Every living being in the world often experiences stress. It is basically a physical response of the brain and the body to any potential threat or demand.
When your body feels the potential of stress it releases a complex mix of hormones and chemicals causing a number of reactions in the body. These reactions could be your knees and hands getting shaky; your palms get sweaty, and your heartbeat and breathing getting faster. These reactions are caused due to the release of a hormone called adrenaline which temporarily affects your nervous system. Some people can recover from stressful events more quickly than others. A stress reaction may be a one-time event, for short period of time or can frequently be happening over a long period of time. You might experience stress from day to day activities, like the pressure of work, school, family, divorce, illness, events like an accident, natural disaster etc.

However, stress can be life-saving in some situations:
  • Stressful situations lead to the release of chemicals which can give you a boost of energy, which also enables you to focus your attention so you can react quickly to the situation.
  • The quickness of pulse, faster breathing, use of more oxygen and increased activity in your brain are all aimed at your body to prepare to face a threat.
  • The stress response can help you perform well under pressure. It can help you mount to a challenge; focus and can boost your energy. It is a part of learning and growing up.
  • It can also motivate you while preparing or performing certain tasks like take a test or an interview for a new job.

Everyone is exposed to stressful situations in their lifetime. How an individual copes with it can lead to a wide variety of health problems.
  • If the stress response goes on for a long period of time it is called chronic stress which can hamper your health. During chronic stress, the mixed hormones and chemicals get released rapidly. These can suppress the immune system, sleep, digestion and reproductive system.
  • A longer period of stress can release chemicals which can leave a person to feeling tired or overwhelmed.
  • People who suffer from stress for long durations of time can become sick, unable to concentrate or think and even suffer from mental breakdowns.
  • Chronic stress can cause one to drink too much alcohol or intake of nicotine which can increase your blood pressure and may damage the artery walls.
The continued strain of stress in your body can cause mental disorders like depression or anxiety.

Conclusion

We should all take steps to manage stress so that it does not impact our health. There are different methods such as Yoga, meditation, etc. which help to alleviate stress.

Modern lifestyle has seen a rise in stress levels among people. One of the most common causes of stress for parents is the poor academic performance of their kids.
