Top 5 Benefits of Investments

From our childhood days, we are taught to save money from our pocket to buy the belongings we wanted the most. This casing of mind carries to the age of maturity and we try to save money for the thing we want the most. But here we commit a drastic mistake of life that makes a difference of becoming successful or reduced in terms of financial amplification.
To understand the investments; we must define the investment first.

What is Investment?

According to Investopedia, An investment is an asset or item that is purchased with the hope that it will generate income or will appreciate in the future. In an economic sense, an investment is the purchase of goods that are not consumed today but are used in the future to create wealth. In finance, an investment is a monetary asset purchased with the idea that the asset will provide income in the future or will be sold at a higher price for a profit.
What are its top 5 benefits?

1) Financial Independence

Financial independence means you have enough wealth to live off of without working. Financially independent people have enough assets that generate income without any physical work as their money is doing work for them.
How to achieve Financial Independence?
Here are the best tips to become financially independent:
· Try to increase your income.
· Plan your savings every year.
· Select profitable investment options.
· Decide your financial goals.
· Try to stay away from loans and debts.

2) Safeguard against the Inflation

Inflation is a sustained increase in the general price level of goods and services in an economy over a period of time. It can be considered as the ageing of the value of money over a time.
In Economics, Inflation reflects a reduction in the purchasing power per unit of money - a loss of real value in the medium of exchange and unit of account within the economy
The value of assets keeps on increasing due to inflation. As a result, the investments are not only safe but also increased by the time. Hence, It acts as an uphold against the Inflation

3) Achieve Financial Goals

When we invest, we put our money aside for long-term goals such as retirement, International holiday trip, Luxury home with a car or a child's education.
The Investments ensure us to achieve all our long term and short term goals at a precise time.

4) Increase Wealth

Investing isn't a mode to get rich quickly. It takes time, patience, and awareness. It requires analytical studies of opportunities available and makes well-versed choices of where to place your investment so it provides huge returns. If the things are performed in a spot in order the results are almost guaranteed.

5) Provide a source of Income

Some funds specifically set out to provide investors with a monthly income while others such as many property funds pay out dividends monthly, as well.
Most of the monthly income funds attempt to offer 11 monthly payments of a similar amount and a 12th that varies. The exact level of income will depend on the fund's performance.
What are the ways of Investments?
Suitable Investment Options are stated as follows:
· Real Estate.
· Individual Stock.
· Mutual Funds.
· Corporate Debt.
· Government Bonds.
· Commodities (Gold, Silver etc).
· Liquid Funds.
· Fixed Deposits.

Resolutions for a Happy New Year 2018

December 31, 2017 0

Four Tips That Can Save You From Making Stupid New Year Resolutions

Around the beginning of each year, people start beating up on themselves, agonizing about things not accomplished in the past, and then they seek a solution in some dim, poorly thought out pledge to be and/or act differently in the upcoming year. For those of the Christian faith, it is apparent that many have confused themselves into thinking that Lent is a year round thing and that a New Year resolution is about denial. For others a resolution is not a resolution unless it is grandiose and has as an added benefit of requiring a major change in lifestyle or life direction. These are often folks who make these decisions and pledges, after having had several glasses of champagne. The lucky ones do not remember it the next day! To make a New Year resolution, one needs to understand why there is any value at all in doing so. Here are four things to consider when building sound goals for New Year resolutions.

First, the most important thing is that a resolution must be designed for success and not based on denial. Denial is bad in nearly all things. If your Faith is involved here, keep repeating "this is not Lent" as you work on your resolution!
Second, a resolution must not pledge a person to quit doing something they truly enjoy because it has a very small margin for success. Quit smoking, giving up chocolate (not Lent remember), most diet pledges and resolutions that are dependent of someone else doing something, are doomed to failure. Several years ago, a Catholic friend made a new years resolution, which called for another friend to get married that year. This is a wish; in a stretch, it may be considered a prayer. However, it is not a resolution designed for success. Creating or committing to a New Years resolution that has no margin for success, has no value. If a person does not believe the goal on which the resolution is based is achievable, then it is stupid and again, has no value. Save your stop smoking plan and diet strategies for lifestyle changes that you work on with your doctor and your fitness guru, not for a New Year resolution.
The third thing is that for a resolution to be successful, it should bring the person true personal satisfaction. To do this, the resolution must be something the individual actually wants, even desires to be different in their life. Personally, two of my best resolutions in this decade have been tremendous successes for this very reason. In, 2001 I resolved to stop wearing neckties. I have not done so since, not even at my wedding that year. Get some collarless dress shirts, a few nice print shirts and some silky mock turtlenecks and one is good to go. The following year I resolved to stop wearing a wristwatch. I do, on occasion, carry my Father's gold railroaders pocket watch and in a pinch, my cell phone will tell me the time.

Two other examples may help illustrate the strength personal satisfaction can play in a well thought out New Years resolution. While still in his teens, a fellow to whom I am close was told by his Father that one could "tell a great deal about a person by whether they kept their shoes shined." Since this person disliked shining shoes, he thought of his Father's words on any occasion that he noticed his own dull or scoffed shoes while in a group of other people. One year, he pledged to frequent shoe shine stands and get regular shoe shines. Each time he did this it made him think of his Father, of whom he was every fond. Now that is a New Years resolution!
The second example is a man who made a resolution in 1979 not to enter a church except to observe the design or architecture unless the occasion was a wedding or funeral for which he could not find a way to get out of going. Only one time has he failed to keep that pledge. On Xmas Eve of 1990, he entered Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris to observe the spectacular of the Midnight Mass celebration. Not exactly grounds for branding him a backslider!
The fourth key to avoiding stupid goal-setting in New Years resolutions is to analysis the scope of your future disappoint if you fail to stick to the pledge. If you make the resolution in order to bring yourself satisfaction or even happiness, to fail to achieve the outcome will bring you neither. Failure is likely to make a person quiet disappointed with themselves. That is not a place we want to resolve to be shortly after beginning a New Year. By looking inside one's self like this, we can increase our chances of recognizing a resolution with the potential for success from one that will bring disappointment. Do not make a resolution that your head or your heart tell you will bring disappointment and make you feel bad about yourself.
Ask yourself questions based on these four tips to get at an understanding of your true conviction regarding the resolution. Is this about denial? If there is denial involved, step away from the denial. Is this a significant lifestyle change? If so, it is not likely to become a successful resolution. Will my success with this resolution bring bring me significant personal satisfaction? If the answer is yes, you are most of the way there my friend. Am I dependent on the actions of others to be successful with this resolution? If the answer is yes, move on from this resolution to one where you are the one in control. By answering a few questions of this kind and other I am sure you can think of, you will greatly increase your odds of gaining the incredible personal satisfaction of successfully living your New Year Resolutions.
In closing, here's an observation that may be viewed as a bit of a disclaimer. Resolutions that involve any kind of commitment to regular exercise should not have these rules or this analysis applied to them. Exercise is not about denial, it's about achieving the discipline and commitment to continue. It is about feeling better because you do it. This is about your health. Exercise that does not pound your body around but rather helps you maintain your muscles, heart and well-being should be in the New Year's resolution "try, try again" file. Trying and failing to achieve the commitment and discipline for success will bring disappoint, no doubt about it. The key is to keep at it until you find an enhancing activity like Yoga, walking, or maybe swimming that finally allows you success and personal satisfaction. I believe that Yoga, all by it's self can be the center of many sound goals that may provide New Years resolution success. Regular yoga practice provides an umbrella lifestyle for exercise, stress management, meditation, balance and well-being. As I said before, now that's a New Year's resolution!

The POINTS Of Knowing Yourself

December 18, 2017 0

The POINTS Of Knowing Yourself

How can anyone, become the best, he might, possibly be, until/ unless, he does, all he can, to know himself better, in an honest, introspective, objective manner? Whether this refers to one's career, profession, aspirations, etc, or simply, an attempt at self - improvement, it must begin, with identifying, enhancing, and focusing, on, the POINTS of truly, knowing, one's self. With this in mind, this article will briefly attempt to examine, consider, and discuss, using the mnemonic approach, some of what this means and represents, and why.

1. Personal strengths (versus weaknesses):

While it's important to set goals, priorities, and aspirations, you can't become the best, you can be, until/ unless, you become capable of being objectively introspective, and identifying, both, your personal strengths, as well as areas of weakness. This must be used effectively, so you begin to properly, effectively use your strengths, to best advantage, while admitting, and addressing your weaknesses, by proceeding with the inner fortitude, to focus on becoming better!

2. Organized; options; opportunities; offer:

Never proceed in a haphazard manner, but commit, to proceeding in an organized, focused way! There are generally multiple options and alternatives, and one must select, the best course of action, for him, to take, which might best align, with his strengths and abilities. Be prepared to take advantage of the opportunities, which present themselves, by knowing how to recognize them, and having the quality judgment, to make the best choice. Always ask yourself, what you have to offer!

3. Integrity; intentions; interests:

Differentiate yourself from the masses, by maintaining your commitment to proceeding, with absolute integrity, especially when some shortcut, might seem convenient! Unless you do so, how will you ever, truly respect yourself? Know your interests, and why, and be certain of your intentions, consistently.

4. Nurturing; needs; notice:

How will you align your personal needs, with the best way, to proceed? Will you maintaining a nurturing attitude/ behavior, which will motivate and inspire others, and attract them, to you, in an inspiring way? Will you notice and observe, all the necessary idiosyncracies?

5. Timely:

Take personal responsibility, and avoid the easiest tendency and path, which is procrastination! When you commit to proceeding in a well - considered, timely manner, you enhance your potential, etc!

6. Substance versus fluff:

How will you be, an individual, of substance, and meaningful, as opposed, to the easier path, which is, focused on fluff, and empty platitudes, etc?

Use the POINTS of better knowing yourself, and you'll move forward, towards self - improvement! Will you actually address these, or proceed, with the comfortable, routine, same - old, same - old, approaches, and mindset?

What does your Job Description Means to you?

December 14, 2017 0

Successful People Have Little Interest In Their Job Description

When working as an IT Staff Analyst for a major insurance and investment company one of my duties included collecting budget data from several managers. The managers were often busy with meetings, which meant that I would approach leads to see if they could supply the information. The numbers I needed were operational in nature, which meant that most people in the department had access to them. However, when I asked the non-managers for assistance, in most cases I was told that I had to wait for the manager to provide it. They made it clear that since this item was not in their job description, they weren't going to help me.
I understand that people are busy, and they have the right to tell me to go fly a kite. However, I know that top performers are going to do what is possible to provide the assistance that I need. In the example noted above, the information would take about 10 minutes to secure. Unfortunately, when the manager was busy, no one was available to help me.

Focus on Solving Problems

I once attended a professional development seminar, and the speaker made a comment that has stuck with me. He said, "The reason we're hired to work in any company is to solve problems. If you want to increase the amount of money you earn, figure out a way to solve bigger problems." While this advice is simple, it makes a ton of sense. In my first job out of college, I was hired at Shell Oil Company as a Revenue Accountant. I spent most of my data updating oil and gas lease accounts. The work was straightforward, and once I learned the process, I could do it in my sleep. Given that the problems I was solving could be handled by any other entry level worker, the pay was average.
My goal was to become a meaningful participant for the organizations where I worked. I knew that becoming a subject matter expert (SME) was going to make a big difference in the hourly rate I could charge. As I improved my skills, and solved higher level problems for my clients, the compensation improved. Of course, it's important to know that big problems require a significant investment in time, and they carry more risk. By taking the lead in these situations, the person is going to be on the radar. It's imperative that we find the best possible solution given the factors that are present.

Investing for beginners: Why do we invest?

Let’s say you have £10,000. There’s no rule that says you have to invest it.

In fact, many people would spend it!

Why not put it under the mattress, and leave it for a rainy day?

One word: Inflation.

This graph shows how what you can buy with £10,000 falls over the years, due to the impact of inflation.

Inflation is the tendency for the cost of things – bread, houses, wages – to rise.

As such it reduces the spending power of your money each year.

In 25 years time, you will still have £10,000 in nominal terms. Your twenty £500 notes will still be under your mattress, and the Queen of England will still be frowning at you.

But in real terms the spending power of your money will be diminished.

The graph shows the impact of just 2% annual inflation on your money.

2% reduces the value of your money by only a little bit each year, but it adds up to a 40% loss in real terms over 25 years.

The inflation rate can rise and fall

The Bank of England and many other countries target a 2% inflation rate.

But sometimes, such as in the 1970s, inflation can rise to 5-10%. Such a high inflation rate can halve the value of your money in less than a decade.

Inflation can get even worse in extreme situations, such as 1920s Germany or Zimbabwe more recently. Hyper inflation in a crisis can hit triple digits or more.

The first reason we invest is to maintain the spending power of our money. Every year we need to grow our savings by at least the rate of inflation.

Generally – but not always – you can keep up with the rate of inflation by keeping your money in a good cash savings account.

Even today, you can find cash deposit accounts paying 2-3% on your savings.1

Cash accounts pay interest on your total savings. By adding this interest to your existing pile of money, you can grow your savings over time.

This may seem trivially obvious, but it’s an important point.

The spending power of each £1 still goes down over time. But by growing the total amount of £1s in your savings pot by earning interest and reinvesting it, you can aim to offset the impact of inflation and maintain the spending power of your total savings.
The red bars show the impact of 2% inflation. The blue show the effect of a 2% interest rate.

In the graph above:

The blue line shows how your £10,000 grows over 25 years with 2% interest. This is the amount you see piling up in your bank account.

The red line shows how £10,000 would lose its value in real terms at 0% interest. For example, if kept under your mattress!

In reality you will get interest and see your wealth rise but – invisibly – each pound in your bank account will also lose some of its spending power due to the impact of inflation at the same time.

If inflation was running at 2% for the entire 25 years and interest rates were also 2%, then the two would cancel each other out.

This is shown in the green bar in the following graph, which is the real spending power of your money, with 2% interest and 2% inflation.

You’d very rarely see inflation and the interest rate on your cash savings exactly matched like this, of course, let alone for 25 years!2

Some times interest rates will easily outpace inflation. At other times it will be very hard to get a real return, especially if you pay tax on your savings.

But the principle is clear. At the very least, you need to grow your money in nominal terms, just to offset the corrosion of inflation.

Investing like this will at least maintain the spending power of your money.

Key takeaways

The real value of £1 decreases over time, due to inflation.

Over the long-term, this can seriously reduce your wealth.

At the least, we need to invest to offset the rate of inflation.

Reading is to the Mind What Exercise is to the Body

December 06, 2017 0

10 Benefits of Reading: Why You Should Read Every Day

When was the last time you read a book, or a substantial magazine article? Do your daily reading habits center around tweets, Facebook updates, or the directions on your instant oatmeal packet? If you're one of countless people who don't make a habit of reading regularly, you might be missing out: reading has a significant number of benefits, and just a few benefits of reading are listed below.

1. Mental Stimulation

Studies have shown that staying mentally stimulated can slow the progress of (or possibly even prevent) Alzheimer's and Dementia, since keeping your brain active and engaged prevents it from losing power. Just like any other muscle in the body, the brain requires exercise to keep it strong and healthy, so the phrase "use it or lose it" is particularly apt when it comes to your mind. Doing puzzles and playing games such as chess have also been found to be helpful with cognitive stimulation.

2. Stress Reduction

No matter how much stress you have at work, in your personal relationships, or countless other issues faced in daily life, it all just slips away when you lose yourself in a great story. A well-written novel can transport you to other realms, while an engaging article will distract you and keep you in the present moment, letting tensions drain away and allowing you to relax.

3. Knowledge

Everything you read fills your head with new bits of information, and you never know when it might come in handy. The more knowledge you have, the better-equipped you are to tackle any challenge you'll ever face.

Additionally, here's a bit of food for thought: should you ever find yourself in dire circumstances, remember that although you might lose everything else—your job, your possessions, your money, even your health—knowledge can never be taken from you.

4. Vocabulary Expansion

This goes with the above topic: the more you read, the more words you gain exposure to, and they'll inevitably make their way into your everyday vocabulary. Being articulate and well-spoken is of great help in any profession, and knowing that you can speak to higher-ups with self-confidence can be an enormous boost to your self-esteem. It could even aid in your career, as those who are well-read, well-spoken, and knowledgeable on a variety of topics tend to get promotions more quickly (and more often) than those with smaller vocabularies and lack of awareness of literature, scientific breakthroughs, and global events.

Reading books is also vital for learning new languages, as non-native speakers gain exposure to words used in context, which will ameliorate their own speaking and writing fluency.

5. Memory Improvement

When you read a book, you have to remember an assortment of characters, their backgrounds, ambitions, history, and nuances, as well as the various arcs and sub-plots that weave their way through every story. That's a fair bit to remember, but brains are marvellous things and can remember these things with relative ease. Amazingly enough, every new memory you create forges new synapses (brain pathways)and strengthens existing ones, which assists in short-term memory recall as well as stabilizing moods. How cool is that?

6. Stronger Analytical Thinking Skills

Have you ever read an amazing mystery novel, and solved the mystery yourself before finishing the book? If so, you were able to put critical and analytical thinking to work by taking note of all the details provided and sorting them out to determine "whodunnit".

That same ability to analyze details also comes in handy when it comes to critiquing the plot; determining whether it was a well-written piece, if the characters were properly developed, if the storyline ran smoothly, etc. Should you ever have an opportunity to discuss the book with others, you'll be able to state your opinions clearly, as you've taken the time to really consider all the aspects involved.

7. Improved Focus and Concentration

In our internet-crazed world, attention is drawn in a million different directions at once as we multi-task through every day. In a single 5-minute span, the average person will divide their time between working on a task, checking email, chatting with a couple of people (via gchat, skype, etc.), keeping an eye on twitter, monitoring their smartphone, and interacting with co-workers. This type of ADD-like behaviour causes stress levels to rise, and lowers our productivity.

When you read a book, all of your attention is focused on the story—the rest of the world just falls away, and you can immerse yourself in every fine detail you're absorbing. Try reading for 15-20 minutes before work (i.e. on your morning commute, if you take public transit), and you'll be surprised at how much more focused you are once you get to the office.

8. Better Writing Skills

This goes hand-in-hand with the expansion of your vocabulary: exposure to published, well-written work has a noted effect on one's own writing, as observing the cadence, fluidity, and writing styles of other authors will invariably influence your own work. In the same way that musicians influence one another, and painters use techniques established by previous masters, so do writers learn how to craft prose by reading the works of others.

9. Tranquility

In addition to the relaxation that accompanies reading a good book, it's possible that the subject you read about can bring about immense inner peace and tranquility. Reading spiritual texts can lower blood pressure and bring about an immense sense of calm, while reading self-help books has been shown to help people suffering from certain mood disorders and mild mental illnesses.

10. Free Entertainment

Though many of us like to buy books so we can annotate them and dog-ear pages for future reference, they can be quite pricey. For low-budget entertainment, you can visit your local library and bask in the glory of the countless tomes available there for free. Libraries have books on every subject imaginable, and since they rotate their stock and constantly get new books, you'll never run out of reading materials.

If you happen to live in an area that doesn't have a local library, or if you're mobility-impaired and can't get to one easily, most libraries have their books available in PDF or ePub format so you can read them on your e-reader, iPad, or your computer screen. There are also many sources online where you can download free e-books, so go hunting for something new to read!

There's a reading genre for every literate person on the planet, and whether your tastes lie in classical literature, poetry, fashion magazines, biographies, religious texts, young adult books, self-help guides, street lit, or romance novels, there's something out there to capture your curiosity and imagination. Step away from your computer for a little while, crack open a book, and replenish your soul for a little while.

Make Your Money Work Harder for You

November 24, 2017 0

One of the biggest differences between the wealthy and the not as wealthy is that the wealthy people earn interest and everyone else pays interest. It is important to realize that money is a tool that can help you to achieve your goals. In order for you to reach true financial independence you need to have your money begin to work for you--not you for it. Here are three things you can do to start making your money work for you. These three steep can also help you break free of the bad financial habits passed down through your family. If you can follow them you will begin to really manage your money.

  • Budget

  •  The most important way to change the way you handle your money is to budget. When you are budgeting you are making your money do what you want it to. By assigning each dollar to a category you are controlling where your money goes and what it does. This will help you to begin to reach your financial goals.
Your budget is the best tool you have next to your income to really build wealth. Your budget gives you control over your finances, and allows you to make financial decisions at the beginning of the each month. When you master budgeting, you will be able to reach your financial goals more quickly and avoid debt. A budget is similar to a fitness tracker and it helps you monitor your spending and income.
If you really want to change your financial picture, your budget is your first step to doing that. Often people will create a budget, but fail to follow through on sticking to it or stop after a month. You need to create your budget each month, track your expenses and make changes as needed so you are always spending less than you earn. When you make the decisions on how you will spend your money at the beginning of the month, you can decide what priorities are the most important to you and really begin to make progress on your goals.

    Get Out of Debt
Do you know how much money you are paying in interest each month? How much of your monthly budget is being eaten up by student loans, car payments and credit card bills? If you could take all of that money and put it into retirement, it is amazing at how quickly you could save for your retirement and other things that you want. Debt often becomes a burden and limits the choices that you can make. One of the best things you can do with your money is to get out of debt and stay out of debt!
Your debt limits your other opportunities. Just think what you could do with the extra money you would have each month if you were completely out of debt. You may also be able to start your own business or quit a job you hate if you were debt free. Take the time today to start getting out of debt.
If you have a lot of debt, it may seem like a problem that is too big to tackle. However, you can start by just clearing up your smaller debts and then work on tackling the bigger ones with the extra money that you have. As you pay off more debt, and then apply that money to the next debt, you begin to build momentum and you will be surprised at how quickly you can get out of debt.

    Save and Invest Your Money
Once you have freed up all that extra money from paying off your debt you need to begin saving aggressively. There will be a point when the money you have will earn more than you do in a month. This takes quite a bit of money, and in order for this to happen you need put a large amount away each month. Once you have a six-month emergency fund saved, you will need to begin investing your money. This how you can grow your wealth the most effectively. Additionally saving money can help you be prepared to handle the ups and downs that will happen throughout your life.
Saving for an emergency fund may be the first step, but you will begin to really build wealth when you invest. Think beyond savings for retirement and find a good financial planner to help you save and invest your money. Take the time to really start saving your money today.
As you begin to invest, it is important to remember to diversify your portfolio. You never want to have all of your money invested in just one type of stock and especially not all in one business. You may get to the point where you want to purchase investments that generate income for you. Many people consider real estate a good investment option because it will generate a monthly income once you have paid off the property.

It helps to have a specific set of goals that you are saving and investing for, since it will help focus your spending and give you motivation. Think about the things that you need to pay for like your child's education, purchasing a home, or early retirement. These goals may also drive what types of investments you choose to use.
